exhibition plan.

My ideas for showing my video is going to be in a classroom on the fourth floor and book out a pjojector and bring in about four skateboards and put them together and project my film onto the skateboards to give it an effect.
i am going to be showing only a few of my mates and when they come in a i am going to hand them a chair so they can sit wherever they want which represents my concept of freedom.
All the blinds are going to be closed and only one light on at the back so you can see the projection clearly.

Questions to ask the audience( Feedback)

1 - What do you think the concept(the meaning) of the video is?

2 - Do you think the venue that i am showing the video in is suitable?

3 - Do you think the soundtrack was appropriate?

4 - Do you think the camera work and edditing worked well for the film?

Task 2.3 Diary.

On Saturday the 7Th of November i started to try and film some of the skating that i am going to use in my experimental video, the day started well when i came out around 1 in the afternoon i got to film only about a minute of good footage over and hour then it started to rain which meant we couldn't Carry on so we headed of for a local car park were we can normally go to skate or ride but as we got up there and started to do some filming we got kicked out by police which was disappointing so that's all i have got so far. The filming went well and i got some good footage but have'nt decided what to use in the video yet but i can sort that out when it comes to edditing it all together.

Over the production week i have put all my clips onto I-Movie and have edited them all together and added effects and fade in and fade outs for the end of certain clips. I still need to add the stop frame to the begining but that will only take half a lesson and then my video will be finished:). I didnt really come accross any problems when i was edditing and i found it quite interesting using the programs and geting used to all of it.

For my soundtrack over the top i have used two songs and mixed them together on Garage Band, both the songs are un-published and were made by one of my mates so i can officially use them. i found it really fun mixing them together on garage band and adding different parts and i think it sounds bettter than the original songs:).

Deja voodoo - Zadoc Nava

This sort video is not stop frame or anything snazzy, shows a young man hearing a car screech and seeing a person laying at the side of the road, he runs down to help and sees that the person is himself, their replica lying on the floor points at a balloon and as he dies he wakes up and realises it was a dream, he then goes out and sees a girl holding a balloon and nearly gets hit by a car, then an old man drops a flower pot on his head, which was actually the cause of it all.

this video has a deep concept about deja'vus and about how they can actually come true or they are slightly twisted into making you believe something is going to happen but it turns out to be something completely different.

Khoda - Reza Dolatabadi

Khoda is a stop fame animation, using over 6000 paintings to make and took just over 2 years to create this 5 minute video.

"even in the mind, is escape ever possible" - this is a psychological thriller about how the minds works and how that it can lead you on the wrong way.

My concept of this video is . . the man is only imagining it because hes dreaming and this video shows all the bad things that can happen in your dreams that you can loose yourself but still break free of things happening to you if you put your mind to it.

Eulogy for things left unsaid - Rob Chiu

Eulogy for things left unsaid is an emotional experimental video exploring the themes of loss, regret and the future.

This video is about the life and the future of a child and what he has done in the past and how that can never change and that you don't get a second chance to relive what you have missed out on, it has a deep and emotional meaning to it.

Forever is never forever is the last line in the film this is trying to say that nothing is going to last forever so make the most of it whilst you still can e.g. when you are young or when you have the opportunities to do it.

Muto annimated wall art.

Muto street annimation has been created by a artist group called Blu. it was created in 2006 and is a stop frame annimation, which mean they have take alot of photos and put them together to create a flowing effect, there is an average of 25 photos per second so that means there will be hundreds of photos for the muto annimation.
This artwork is quite weird and had a different effect on eveyone but i think the concept of this video is how stages of life have gone past(different ages of time) and also all the sorts of weird things that atually happen in the world that not many people actually know about, and just his general style has its own meanings thats he is expressing.
His work has deep a deep meaning, and its just life going on but in a different view.

Chapter 2

The use of technology and techniques and styles - Over the years technology has increased greatly, now nearly everything uses some sort of technology but back when it was still quite new to use computers and cameras new forms of art started to emerge and hit the scene as experimental videos such as Girl Chewing Gum which was filmed in 1976 in black and white which was what they filmed in in those days and it got edited with voice overs which is a more modern technique so this is mixing old technology with new.
Compared to when doll face was made which was in 2006 the technology has become alot better and annimations now are easyer for artists to create and can be easier than using real life and probarly cheaper but the use of technology differs all the time, no video is the same and they all use different bits of technology to create it, some jsut use a camera to film others use computers to make the whole of it, but in my oppinion technology is alot better than it used to be a few years ago.

Chapter 3

Narrative(Story Line) and Non-Narrative structures - Some pieces of video artwork have non-narrative structures like Muto's wall animation and the artwork we went to see in Brigthon, this is because they do not have a beginning. middle or end and there is no actual structure to the videos, muto's work is Non - narrative because it doesn't have an order and is just how the artist wanted it to be and with the Brighton artwork it was just recorded images of peoples emotions projected onto a TV to resemble our emotions.
Others work we have looked at have a narrative structure like Andy Huans Doll Face and
Koyaanisqatsi (1982), having a Narrative structure means that the video has a Beginning, Middle and End, so in Doll Face it starts of with a blank TV and a modern looking Jack In The Box, then the woman's face comes out of the box and starts to try and reach the TV, this is the middle part where the doll face is copying what the TV is showing, the at the End shes out of Reach of the TV and breaks herself trying to get to it, this is the simple structure of Narrative work, and the same thing happens in Koyaanisqatsi starts of with cave men paintings which shows the first signs of human life the goes through other stages of life in the middle and finishes of at the end with the most recent technology for the film which is a space ship exploding.
I don't think that it matters weather a video is narrative or non - narrative because if people are not interested in a film they will walk out even if it has a story line just like some artwork, but for some films it is important so people can understand what is going on.

Chapter 6

Audience, and audience interpretation of the work - for each video we have watched in our lessons and outside of lessons, we have all had different reactions and interpretations for the videos we have seen, apart from the basic outline of the videos because everyone thinks of a different sort of concept for the videos and we all see them differently.

The reaction to watching something like muto's animated wall painting was pretty much all the same a bit confused but quite amused at the same time, but we all had different views on what the concept of it was.
It doesn't matter if people have a different reaction or concept of something we have watched because none of us think or are the same so we will all feel very differently about what we have seen.

I don't think that it matters if people don't have the same concept reaction because its up to you what you think about the video and its about how you analyse it, if everyone else thinks the same way then there would be no point in writing about it.

chapter 1

The two artists i have looked at from the past are Girl Chewing Gum by john smith and Koyaanisqatsi by Godfrey Reggio.
These two video's look completely different when you compare them, one being about life and the planet and the other is just some old footage with someone commentating over the top, two completely different styles but they do have there similarities, they both lead you on to believe something that's is slightly of the truth like in girl chewing gum its as though the commentator is actually predicting whats going on, but then it starts to become a bit obvious and you catch on that hes only doing a voice over and in the koyaanisqatsi video some parts seem really calm and relaxing as though nothing is going to happen, then suddenly something destructive happens and completely changes the mood of the film.
But then they do have their differences, girl chewing gum has narrative over the top but koyaanisqatsi is a non - verbal film.

Chapter 5

My initial idea for my experimental video was to take lots of still photos of a skater walking to the skate park and take more still images of him skating, then do the same thing again for him walking home, but this will take to long to do, so i am going to do the still images of him walking to and back from the skate park, but I'm going to video him skating and put it in slow motion and change all the colours around.
I'm going to have the camera angle tilted to one side so its like in a diamond and maybe have a fish eye lens on the camera to give it more of an effect.
I am going to have a soundtrack over the top which will probably be D&B/dubstep or something that goes well with skating and flows well.
Skate park should be empty will have more of an effect, then fades into a busy skate park!
Ive been inspired to do a video like this by all the skating videos Ive watched and the Muto, animated wall art video where I'm taking the lots of still images put together to make a small film.

Chapter 4

The first instillation artists work we looked at was called "Annlee You Proposes" by an artist called Liam Gillick, the artwork is on Level 5, and the theme is No Ghost Just A Shell, basses in the No Ghost Just A Shell room.
The whole room is based on Anlee You Proposes and inside are a variety of metal squares, all different colours and in different orders and arranged as seats and built up as though a wall or a chest of draws, the room is bright with lamps in all the corners, and 3 TV screens all of witch showing an animated video of a girl talking about something which is quite UN-nerving mixed with the coldness in the rooms presents a spooky and creepy feeling when your in this room. we couldn't quite work out the meaning for this but i think that it shows that most creepy/UN-natural things are usually kept in the dark and it makes it just as scary but this shows that it can be bright and lots of colours around, but it still makes it just as weird, so i think the room goes well with the video and it adds a creepy effect.

The second piece of work we looked at was called "Blood And Feathers" by Ana Mendieta on level 5 in the Ana Mendieta room with the theme of energy and process, and is a silent video projected onto the wall of a naked woman who covers herself in blood and the falls onto the floor and rolls around in feathers. The chairs to sit on are really comfy and its nice and warm in there which makes you feel more relaxed and its also quite dark in there so it gives people a feeling that they should be quite when watching it so its really quite in the room.
The meaning that we got from Blood and Feathers was that after she has rolled in the feathers, she emerges as a symbolised swan, to now show beauty and freedom.

Koyaanisqutsi

Koyaanisqatsi's 1982 life out of balance has a wide range of imagery and built up of lots of different scenes and camera shots.
The types of visual images and videos used in the film have a wide range from destruction to construction of new and old times, which i think show the evolution of the world, and how humans evolving has a bad effect on the world.
The range of locations change from Big, Busy, Crowded city's like New York, to natural shots like water falls, fields full of crops, and this shows you how the world is all different and all the things that go on in our world and the destruction that humans have caused.
The Music has a huge effect on the images you see on the screen, it starts of creepy with images of cave paintings and an explosion, and slowly breaks into something more happy when it is showing natural scenes like the waterfall, but when there are images of destruction the music completely changes and becomes all dark, evil and it really suits the mood and makes you see the film in a different way.

The Film has no dialogue and the music throughout the whole film is Non - Diagetic which means the music is from outside the frame.
The concept of this video has quite allot of different meanings, it shows how the world is being built up so fast that the natural parts of the world are getting destroyed without having a chance to try and exist. The music in the film also is part of contrast because without the music you would not get the same effect and it would just be lots of random video clips without any noises.

Andy Huang - Doll Face

In this experimental video of Andy Huang's Doll Face it shows what some people put themselves through and the extreme lengths they go through just to look glamorous, or look like people on T.V who could be peoples roll models.
It is an unreachable goal because people get to a certain stage and cant go any further(plastic surgery).
Doll Face sounds like the person is plastic or a china doll.

People go so far and ruin themselves and can not go back so they look Broken ( like the woman's face).
Lots of other images flash on the screen while the TV moves around, this shows all the chaos that goes on on TV and how it can ruin people.
